“Listen, the National Day of Prayer has not been observed in the White House for eight years. This is important.” -Pastor Greg Laurie

(Washington, DC)—Greg Laurie, senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California, has written of his unique experience at the White House the night before the National Day of Prayer and President Trump’s signing of an executive order promoting free speech and religious liberty. Laurie, who shared the honor of meeting the president over a special dinner with a host of Christian leaders such as James Dobson, Franklin Graham, Richard Land and others, said he was seated next to Vice-President Mike Pence and his wife Karen.
Although Laurie and the others were informed that President Trump might have to leave the dinner event early, he said, But “He ends up hanging out with us for like three hours. It just went on and on. I think he was having a good time.” (Photo: Steven Curtis Chapman leading worship in Rose Garden/via Facebook-Greg Laurie)
Not only that, but after the dinner, the president invited them all to see the Lincoln bedroom on the second floor of the White House and then took them to see the Truman balcony.
“I think this is outside of protocol,” noted Laurie, “because normally, people are not taken up to the second floor, where the family has their private quarters.” (Photo: Franklin Graham and Greg Laurie/via Facebook video)
James Dobson, who had visited the White House several times before, was quoted as saying he had never seen anything like it. “Even he was amazed,” noted Laurie. “That was just a fantastic night.”
As for those who might criticize Laurie for “mixing politics with religion,” the pastor had this to say:
“If the president of the United States invites you to dinner—I don’t care if you voted for them or not—you go to dinner with the president. Besides, it’s a free meal, right? I was never invited by President Obama. If Secretary [Hillary] Clinton had won and asked me to be on some faith advisory board, I would have jumped at the chance. Of course, I would do that.” (Photo: Greg Laurie with the Marine String Quartet in the White House/via Facebook)
“Christians need to be involved in everything today in our country, including politics,” continued Laurie. “Christians need to register, they need to vote, they need to run for office, and they need to be in every place in our society. I was really surprised to find how many members of this administration were overt Christians and many of them meet for Bible study every week. I don’t want to say who and what, but I met people and was surprised to find that they were a Believer and very encouraged by that as well.”
