There was a poverty study by the Brookings Institute. And it concluded, after a massive study, that there were three things a person could do to decrease the likelihood of poverty to 2 percent or less: 1. Finish high school. 2. Get married. 3. Wait until you’re married to have children. But a lot of our policies over the decades have not reflected that, in fact have moved us in the opposite direction. We should actually utilize the data, it would make a huge difference!”

In a segment on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” guest commentator and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Ben Carson was asked about the situation in Baltimore, and the current feud between Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) and President Trump. (Screengrab image: via Fox News)
Carson noted that in his previous work as a pediatric surgeon, there were times he was faced with a ‘horrible dilemma’ after the child’s surgery, of returning the child to their East Baltimore living conditions which were ‘infested with rats and roaches, tics, mold and lead and violence, and I didn’t want to send them back … but now, fortunately, God’s given me the opportunity to do something about it.’
Secretary Carson told Tucker that he’d asked President Trump if he’d be ‘willing to work with Elijah Cummings to bring some relief to the people of Baltimore, and he said he would be happy to.’
Dr. Carson also noted the ‘Opportunity Zones’ that were put in place by the Trump administration, as well as the rise in wages, jobs, manufacturing, and prison reform and that ‘these are not things that a person who is a racist would do.’
He told Tucker that what Trump was trying to tell Cummings is instead of trying to find problems with Border agents, why not spend some time ‘working more for these people [of Baltimore] who are suffering.’
Carson concluded by saying, “You need to address the family issues … There was a poverty study by the Brookings Institute.
