Jewish groups and Israel supporters contend it was an anti-Israel resolution that labeled the country a genocidal apartheid state. Resolution AR 13-25 asked students at the Ann Arbor campus to approve “University accountability in the face of genocide.” The university stopped the vote late last week after the pro-Palestinian Tahrir coalition sent an email to the entire student body urging approval of the resolution. Administration officials called that a violation of university rules and tainted the voting process. If students had voted and approved the anti-Israel resolution, it may have set a precedent for similar votes at other colleges and universities. The son of a Hamas founder, Mosab Hassan Yousef addressed students before voting began, saying he could not believe activists asked students to make the choice.
The resolution referred to Palestine as “a victim of settler colonialism” and it called on the University of Michigan to “recognize the millions of people undergoing genocide in Gaza.” The petition also called for the university to revisit its decision against forming a committee to investigate the ethics of its investments in apartheid regimes. Protestors made similar demands at the height of the BDS or Boycott, Sanctions, and Divestment movement against Israel. Yousef called the apartheid allegation idiotic. “We have 1.6 million Arabs in the state of Israel. That’s a huge percentage. They have representatives in the parliament, the Israeli Knesset…Arabic is an official language in the state of Israel,” he noted. And Yousef contends Hamas, not Israel, is committing genocide. He reminded the audience of the Oct. 7 terror attacks and that the Hamas charter advocates the destruction of the state of Israel. “It all begins with killing Jews…This is what motivates them. But to go and ethnically cleanse more than 20 communities, killing everything in your way and everything is documented. This is what Israel suffered on October seven, and this cannot be compared to the war of victims in Gaza,” he said. The Geneva Convention describes genocide as “a crime committed with the intent to destroy a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group in whole or in part.” One aspect of genocide is the forcible transference of children from one group to another. In a move that the Daily Mail described as “humiliating” for Joe Biden, lawmakers cast a bipartisan vote to freeze the six billion dollars that the President had previously freed up for Iran as part of his hostage negotiation deal. The move drew the support of nearly every Republican but also attracted nearly 100 Democrats. Now it’s looking as if it might pass in the Senate as well. Jordan shared screenshots of an email revealing YouTube’s communications with the White House. “On April 12, 2021, Rob Flaherty—Biden’s Director of Digital Strategy—emailed Google wanting to know how Google could better ‘crack down on vaccine misinformation’ and to discuss ‘ways the White House (and our COVID experts) can partner in your product work,'” Jordan wrote, quoting Flaherty’s email detailing his discussion with Google, YouTube’s parent company. Another screenshot revealed that it was very evident to Google that the White House was critical of its censorship policies related to COVID-19 virus and vaccine related information. “Rob’s questions were very YT focused” and Flaherty “dug in on our decision making for borderline content” one Google employee explained according to a screenshot of an internal email shared by Jordan. According to Jordan, YouTube’s Government Affairs team warned the platform’s product team about what appeared to be the administration’s intention. “There is a very high degree of interest coming from the White House regarding vaccine misinfo/vaccine hesitancy and our work around borderline content,” read one email. “Unfortunately, the role of tech in addressing vaccine hesitancy is about to come under a massive spotlight particularly as the supply of the vaccine is soon set to outpace demand.” She also noted The email went on to again stress that the White House was specifically interested in “borderline content” and whether YouTube was elevating so-called authoritative sources. In the following weeks, Google and YouTube’s Government Affairs Team repeatedly urged the product team to brief the White House “to prevent anything from potentially spiraling out of control,” the screenshot shared by Jordan showed. In one email communication, a Google employee warned that White House staff were “familiar with many of [YouTube’s] policies and efforts” on removing certain content and “continue[d] to have questions on the raise/reduce efforts.” Ultimately, Google decided to prioritize working with the Biden Administration. Even the left-wing Snopes wrote, “Trump unambiguously said, ‘we’ve been waging all-out war in American democracy’ (and C-SPAN’s transcript reflects the same). We did not hear, nor does the context support the claim that he said, ‘waging all-out war on American democracy.’ It’s clear that Trump was out to accuse his political opponents of waging war on democracy, not admitting to doing it himself.”
During a campaign visit to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, last week, Trump delivered a speech. You may have heard part of it because a short clip went viral on social media with a little help from the Biden presidential campaign. As you can see, the Biden campaign shared the eight-second clip, insisting that Trump told supporters, “We’ve been waging an all-out war on American democracy.” Such a damning video, right? According to the usual suspects on the left, it is. To them, it’s proof that Donald Trump is a danger to “our democracy,” and he finally “said out loud” what the left has been saying all along about him. It’s a confession, some even say. Except that’s not what he said at all. Here’s the line of his speech in context: For decades, you watched as a corrupt political class in our nation’s capitol looted your money, trampled on your dignity, and pushed their radical agenda into every aspect of your lives. You know it very well. But in 2016, you voted to stand up to those liars, losers, crooks, and creeps, and you elected an outsider as your president. And it was about America first. We want to put our country first. They haven’t done that in a long time, but we did it for four years and that’s why we did so well. That’s why it was one of the great presidencies, they say. The Crown has attempted to make a case that Tamara Lich and Chris Barber were co-conspirators responsible for the uprising in Ottawa in 2022.
According to a Day 31 update from The Democracy Fund (TDF), which is crowdfunding Lich’s legal costs, the Crown spent a “significant part” of its presentation last Thursday focused on “characterizing Lich and Barber as leaders of an “occupation.” In court, the Crown was able to give this response to the defense, which for the past week has been submitting its case in court defending Lich and Barber, who were the main heads of the 2022 Freedom Convoy that headed to Ottawa to demand an end to all COVID mandates. The TDF noted how the Crown directed the court’s attention to “videos depicting the blocking of roads in downtown Ottawa, including one featuring Barber expressing approval.” The Crown also showed the court press conferences with Lich and Barber held in early 2022, along with “Facebook posts, and videos portraying them as key figures in the movement,” as noted by the TDF. “The Crown argued that their actions and statements, including a text exchange discussing ‘misleading’ tactics, demonstrated a shared purpose in opposing mandates through unlawful means,” the TDF observed. The Crown also highlighted to the court how Barber had called for more protestors to join the movement, including showing a TikTok video of him telling people to come to Ottawa. The Crown claimed that this video, and other evidence show Barber was trying to flood the city with protesters in some kind of “occupation.” Lawrence Greenspon, defense counsel for Lich, objected to the Crown’s “changing positions on the furtherance submissions,” as noted by the TDF, and asked for an “opportunity to respond,” which was granted by Judge Heather Perkins-McVey.
