Wanda Alger: Laws Can Change When God’s People Step In

“The LORD says to my Lord: ‘Sit at My right hand, until I make Your enemies Your footstool.’ The LORD sends forth from Zion Your mighty scepter. Rule in the midst of Your enemies!” (Psalm 110:1–2 ESV)

For those who understand the greater authority we carry from an unseen Kingdom, the issue isn’t about whether or not we get involved in governmental affairs or an electoral process. It’s about being vessels of transformation and possessing a zeal to see God’s glory and presence permeate and impact every part of the nation.

God’s rule and dominion are not just spiritual concepts reserved for prayer. They are a tangible result of sons and daughters becoming instruments of righteousness and conduits of Kingdom authority into every part of God’s creation.

What Does That Look Like?

“Kingdom rule is the reality of an unseen Kingdom at work in every sphere of our culture; bearing such weight, authority, and influence, it’s impact is powerful and tangible. It will be felt by the implicit, supernatural authority that accompanies those who operate in it, bringing substantial results that are not possible through natural means.

“It is we, the ambassadors of Heaven, who are the carriers of this Kingdom authority and those who bring Heaven to Earth in our various realms of influence. This is not necessarily by ruling over others in the natural as much as ruling and reigning in the spirit. We have the opportunity to bring this kind of impact to every mountain of our culture through our witness and righteous actions, regardless of our roles or positions.

“God took Daniel to a governmental mountain in his day to bear Heaven’s authority with a heathen ruler. Joseph was made second in command to the Pharaoh of Egypt in order to save God’s people from extinction. The apostle Paul was led into the courts of Caesar to make an appeal for the gospel. In each case, it was not an organized takeover or attempt at domination, but a living demonstration of Kingdom rule and authority that so impacted the pagan rulers of the day, God’s people prospered, and the glory of the true King became known. They ruled in the midst of their enemies.” (Excerpted from Moving from Sword to Scepter, Wanda Alger 2020.) (Photo via ElijahShopper)

Use Your Voice and Your Authority

Esther did not save her people through prayer alone. It merely prepared her to challenge the laws of the day, risk her life and reputation, and use her voice to declare God’s intentions to a heathen ruler. She was given a scepter, and what was deemed unlikely and impossible in the natural became reality because of both prayer and action. Laws were changed because God’s people stepped in.

The saints of old didn’t avoid interaction with the rulers of their day. On the contrary, when God’s people were threatened, He called them up and they gladly walked into the courts of men knowing the greater authority they carried. They used that authority to change atmospheres, change hearts, and even change laws. They gladly defended their faith and confronted the powers that be, not because they sought to be political, but because the righteousness of God compelled them. Their involvement not only turned the hearts of rulers, but turned the tide of nations.

There is a death sentence decreed against the people of God in this nation. Veiled as woke ideologies, we are being prepared for annihilation and enslavement to an anti-God system. Yes, we need to pray. But we also must take action and let our voices be heard. We must speak up in the public square, and exercise our rights as citizens to vote for those who are going to rule and make laws that will affect us. If we do not, the ungodly will rule by default.

This is not the time to debate our role in civic affairs. We’ve been given a scepter and it’s time to use it. It’s time to exercise our Kingdom authority, first in prayer, and then in practice.
