Watching at His Gates

Recently I met someone for a cup of coffee. As I drove up, they were standing on the sidewalk looking in the direction I would be coming. What a nice feeling to see them standing there watching for me! As I pulled in, they walked up to my car ready to greet me. I knew I was welcome!
How much more does it not please the heart of God when we set ourselves to watch for Him? Proverbs 8:34-35 speaks of not only a blessing, but the favor of God on those who watch at His gates, waiting at the posts of His doors.
“Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord.”
In Isaiah we see that the posts of the doors moved at the voice of them that cried “holy,” then the house was filled with smoke, or the manifest presence of God.
“And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.” Isaiah 6:3-4
In that glory there came a further working of the Lord in Isaiah’s life which involved both repentance and impartation, enabling him to become joined in the purpose of the Lord.
We are living in a time of visitation. There is nothing we can do of ourselves to cause it to happen, but as we watch and wait at the posts of His doors, we please the heart of God.
“I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.” Proverbs 8:17
The Lord will not leave those who are watching for Him standing there alone on the sidewalk! He will come and make Himself known.
“That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.” Proverbs 8:21
There is an urgency of spirit to seek a greater release of the Lord’s presence and the moving of His Holy Spirit in greater ways. As we spend time waiting at His gates in worship and prayer, may we watch in expectation for His coming, that we might spend time with Him. Two earnest, heartfelt prayers I often pray are quite simple: “We love You, Lord!” and “Come, Lord Jesus, come.”
May His presence ever increase in our lives as we seek Him, that like Isaiah experienced, we too might experience a further catching up into His purposes today. The Lord is looking to see if any are watching for His coming. He will come where He is wanted!
