As I was inquiring of the Lord about a word for the year 2020, the Holy Spirit brought me back to “The Roaring 20s.” I did some research on it and this is what I found. The Roaring 20s was an age of dramatic social and political change. The name was derived from the popular, exuberant, freewheeling culture that defined that decade. It was an era that bought dramatic social and political change, freedom to women, and major advances in science and technology. Germany referred to the 1920s as “The Golden 20s” or “The Happy 20s.” For them, it was also a time of freedom and financial stability.
There were many inventions that shaped and transformed America in the 1920s. Advances in technology led to the age of electricity for many homes in America, which provided them with the power required to run new labor-saving devices such as refrigerators, washing machines, radios, phonographs, vacuum cleaners, electric razors and irons.
In the 1920s many inventions were made that changed the course of history. The bulldozer was invented in 1923, and the first traffic signal was also patented that same year. The electric iron and the jukebox were introduced in 1927, as well as the first electric television. Penicillin and the first “modern” recliner chair were invented in 1928. The first pair of modern sunglasses was invented in 1929. The nation’s total wealth more than doubled between 1920 and 1929.
Divine Revelation
The Lord showed me that there was going to be explosive growth in technology in the 2020s. The Holy Spirit is going to release knowledge that is not known to man in the natural but will be released through divine revelation.
When I began to write this, the Holy Spirit reminded me of something that He had told me at the beginning of the year. He said, “Your natural mind could not comprehend the things that I will show you in the secret place.” Jesus is going to choose the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and choose the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty. In Revelation chapter 4, the Lord took the apostle John into a heavenly encounter. John saw a door standing open in Heaven and heard a voice like a trumpet say, “…Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this” (Revelation 4:1). Immediately he was in the spirit and he described what he saw in Heaven. Jesus is inviting us to come up to a higher place as He is bringing fresh revelation in the days ahead. He will release fresh manna every morning and fresh quail in the evening.
Kingdom Connections
In the 2020s, the Lord is going to create Kingdom connections. We are going to see brothers and sisters in the faith working with synergy as ministries merge. Many of the five-fold ministries will work together and will complement one another rather than control, criticize or gossip. They will no longer be in competition with one another but will cut off those relationships that contend against this move of God sweeping the globe. As iron sharpens iron, they will encourage one another daily and hold up one another’s arms when they are weary.
As I was writing this, I saw particular men and women of God who were being called to be ministry forerunners of the Roaring 20s.
Balance in the Body
Then the Lord showed me people who were battle weary from the previous year. This is going to be a time of restoration for those who have testimonies of being delivered from the paw of the lion and the mouth of the bear. They have been through the fires and battled the flames. Those who have been falsely accused and ridiculed are going to receive justice.
He is looking for those who will walk in holiness and no longer follow the ways of fleshly desires. As covenant children of God they are always in warfare mode, and as warriors and worshipers they never let their guards down.
The Voice of God
The Lord is raising up prophetic voices. They will not speak on their own accord but only what they hear the Father saying. They recognize His voice because they read the Word and spend time with Jesus. Just like Samuel, not one word that they prophesy will fall to the ground.
He is raising up intercessors and giving them a blueprint and a battle plan. They will defeat the enemy with the same weapon that he used against them. He is raising up a fearless generation who will submit their lives to the call to transform their nation in the Roaring 20s. (Photo via Unsplash)
Job 12:22, “He uncovers deep things out of darkness, and brings the shadow of death to light.”
Daniel 2:22, “He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with Him.”
Daniel 12:4, “But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, until the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”
A Decade of Major Change
The Roaring 20s was an exceptionally prosperous time as Americans enjoyed a high standard of living. It was known as a time of new inventions, technical innovations, jazz and social gatherings.
There was a shift for families as many households switched from coal to electricity. The 1920s was also remembered for its flappers, music, automobile craze, and advancements in radio, television and film. The people’s attire was unique. The men wore fedoras or cabbie caps that matched with their suits, and the women were adorned with ‘bob’ hairstyles, cloche hats and dresses. It certainly was a decade of transformation for America.
The Lord is showing me that the 2020s will be a decade of major changes not only in the natural but also in the Kingdom of God.
The 1960s and the 1970s were marked by the Jesus movement. The 1980s and 1990s were known for charismatic renewal and a faith movement. From the year 2000 until now we have heard much about a grace and glory movement. The Holy Spirit wants to bring it all together in the coming days as He releases the former and the latter rain.
Worshiping with Abandon
The Lord showed me meetings where people were gathered in exuberant praise. They were not drunk as some supposed, but were filled with the Holy Ghost. Many worshipers were dancing with flags, banners and streamers.
The glory cloud is going to move upon congregations once again. We will see people set free, delivered and transformed in their time of worship as the Holy Spirit descends. As people worship with abandon, they will enter into a new place with God. I saw bondages being broken and yokes being destroyed as they sing about the wonderful name of Jesus.
Dismantling Man-Made Traditions
There will be another awakening like the Jesus movement back in the day. The Jesus movement swept across the nation bringing many people into the Kingdom of God. Hippies as well as white-collar workers gathered together on Wall Street for prayer. Many denominations came together in one accord to worship Jesus.
The Lord wants to set people free of man-made doctrine and religious traditions. As pastors who are spiritually burned out allow the Holy Spirit to move in their churches, they will receive an impartation from the Him which will bring an awakening and a revival to their congregations. Prayers of a Righteous Man and Woman
There will be a new season of intercession. Many will gather together and seek the face of Jesus. They will be those who know how to pull Heaven down to Earth. The Lord will visit them as they call upon His name in one accord. He will speak in visions, words of knowledge and prophecies as they stand in agreement.
They don’t pray with empty words; they know that God the Father hears and answers their prayers. They know their authority and that whatsoever they bind on Earth shall be bound in Heaven and whatsoever they loose on Earth shall be loosed in Heaven.
Beware of Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing
Although the Holy Spirit is going to move in a mighty way, spiritual warfare will also increase. We have no need to fear because the Lord has given us power over all the power of the enemy and nothing, by any means, shall harm us.
Unfortunately, there will always be those who oppose a move of the Holy Spirit. Beware of the secessionists who distort Christianity by saying that the spiritual gifts have ended with the times of the apostles. They oppose women in ministry and deceive many. The enemy will try to send backlash every time something is accomplished for the glory of God, but as the enemy tries to come in like a flood, the Lord will raise up a standard against him.
A Company of Prophets
1 Samuel 10:6, “Then the Spirit of the Lord will rush upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man.”
The Lord is raising up prophetic voices. He will speak to them in dreams and visions of the night. The Holy Spirit showed me many prophets and leaders who were forerunners of the coming revival. They prophesied out of a pure heart. Their words were not tainted with pride, anger or arrogance. They passed the tests of life and didn’t retaliate when confronted.
We will see prophets training and mentoring younger prophets just as Elisha raised up prophetic sons and Samuel met with a band of prophets. (Photo via Unsplash)
1 Samuel 3:19, “So Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground.”
A Glorious Bride
First and foremost, as Christians we must guard our hearts. It is imperative that we walk in holiness if we want to hear from God, not in a religious way but by submitting ourselves in a personal relationship with Jesus.
In 1 John 3:21-22, John wrote that if our conscience is clear, we can ask Him anything and we will receive it: “Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of Him, because we keep His commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.”
1 John 2:6 says that whoever claims to live in Him must live as Jesus did. The Apostle Paul said, “I die daily.” We must close all doors to any sin that would keep us from receiving all that the Lord has for us.
“For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward Him” (2 Chronicles 16:9).
